Bob Geldof Space Travel -To Go Where No Rock Star Has Gone Before
Bob Geldof is set to become the first rock star to travel into space after purchasing a ticket with priviately owned company 'Space Expedition Corporation'.
The Irish singer and campaigner Bob Geldof has been the latest high profile celebrity to purchase a seat on board a commercial flight travelling into space.
The Space Expedition Corporation (SXC) is planning to launch a spacecraft with 100 passengers into space by 2014. However, a landmark in commercial travel comes at a price, the price being $100,000 per ticket. One thing is for certain, the only space travellers in the near future will be of the wealthier class.
According to the BBC, other familiar faces as well as Geldof, who have signed up are DJ Armin Van Buuren and Victoria Secret's model Doutzen Kroes. Geldof is overjoyed with his recent investment, saying "Being the first Irishman in space is not only a fantastic honour but pretty mind-blowing".
The former rock star also stated "the first rock astronaut space rat! Elvis may have left the building but Bob Geldof will have left the Planet! Wild! Who would have thought it possible in my lifetime".
The rather wealthy passengers will be travelling on the Lynx X2 privately built Spacecraft which includes a cockpit crew of two and is a similar size to a private airplane.
Bob Geldof will begin preparation for space travel immediately as he plans to fly to the Netherlands later on in the week to start practising on a simulator.
Geldof may be subject to scrutiny as the public could argue he should concentrate with issues on earth, but the charity worker definitely deserves to take a vacation, even if it is out of this world.
