Beyoncé Maintains No.1 Spot With New Self-Titled Album
Beyoncé's new self-titled album reigns No.1 for the second week in a row on the Billboard 200 album chart.
Beyoncé still reigns No.1 on the Billboard 200 with her new self-titled album in its second week of release.
The 32 year-olds fifth studio set sold 374,000 copies in the week ending December 22nd and shifted an impressive 617,000 copies between Dec 13th and 15th, the first three days it was available on iTunes.
In its first ten days of release 'Beyoncé' is the 12 highest-selling album of 2013 with 991,000 copies moved, but it could finish the year in the top ten sellers, which have all surpasses the million-sold mark.
For its first week the album could only be purchased exclusively through iTunes but this week it was made available through many big name retailers.
However, the likes of amazon.com and Target have refused to sell her new album due to it only been available for to buy online when first released.
A spokesperson for Target said, "At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections"
"We are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyoncé's new self-titled album 'Beyoncé.'"
Even though there was no promotional work prior to the album's release the 'Halo' singer has since publically discussed the song list and their personal nature.
"I'm very private and I'm very respectful, and I think it just took me no longer being someone's child, once I became a mother, I felt like I could tear those fourth walls and I just felt like it was time," she said to the Associated Press. "I completely feel liberated."
Beyoncé also revealed she was extremely nervous even moments before the album dropped, "I was terrified. I was so scared. I already envisioned like the worst things that could happen," she said. "I was really nervous because this was a huge risk."
'Beyoncé' was released on December 13th 2013.
