"Battered Old" Harrison Ford is On The Mend Following On Set Star Wars Leg Break
Harrison "Battered old" Ford is on the road to recovery
The news that Han Solo would be back for Star Wars Episode VII, and that he would be played by returning star Harrison Ford filled fans of the sci-fi franchise with joy. But that joy was short-lived when it was revealed that he 71-year-old veteran had suffered a serious injury while filming at Pinewood Studios, London.
Harrison Ford is returning as Han Solo, once his leg is mended of course
At first, speculation was rife as to what affliction Ford had suffered, with rumours of a broken ankle being bandied around. But it was recently confirmed, by his publicist, that the injury sustained was more serious: a broken leg. But good news is back at last as it appears as though he’s doing well following surgery.
His publicist said: "Harrison Ford's left leg was broken in an accident. His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly. He's doing well and looks forward to returning to work." Speaking to the Daily Express, Ford quipped: ''I am like a battered old Ford. And I keep on coming back for more. If it doesn't look real on the screen than an audience does not believe what it sees.''
Police said the accident involved a garage door, although there have been suggestions that the legendary spacecraft, the Millennium Falcon, was involved somehow. Solo and Chewbacca used the Millennium Falcon for their smuggling missions, making it one of the most iconic pieces of machinery from the Star Wars universe.
In other Star Wars news, Rian Johnson has been confirmed as the director to take the baton from JJ Abrams when he’s finished with Episode VII. Johnson, who directed Brick and Looper, as well as three episodes of the hugely popular Breaking Bad, will write and direct Episodes VIII and IX, making it his biggest and most daunting project to date.
