'Jackass Present: Bad Grandpa' Looks Like The Early Favourite To Top Weekend Box Office

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa is predicted to earn close to $30 million at the box office in it's opening weekend, according to Deadline, making it the most likely candidate to finish at the top of the box office come the end of the week. This means that after three weeks of dominating the US box office, Gravity may finally be replaced as America's favourite movie at cinemas.

Bad Grandpa should be an easy weekend winner

Depending on what side of the $30 mil. mark it lands on, the film can become either the third or fourth most successful R-rated film of the year in terms of opening box office revenue. Should the film exceed expectations even further, it could potentially place even higher. The film already made an estimated $11 - 12 mil. on the opening day of the weekend - Friday, 25 October - and could be well on its way to exceeding the $30 mil. mark should the numbers continue to add up. Not bad for a film that only cost $15 million to make.

Gravity therefore looks ready to finally step down from the top spot and should come either side of the $20 mil. mark over the course of the weekend. Providing on how much it does make, the film could reach the $200 mil. mark in the domestic market, however if it fails to make the mark it will probably surpass that huge sum by the time it finishes its cinematic run in the US. The film is still to be released in various overseas markets, and it could very well become one of the most unexpected box office smashes of the year.

The Paul Greengrass-directed, Tom Hanks-starring Captain Phillips looks set to take home the number three spot, falling from number two after two weeks. The film should bring in over $10 million by the end of the weekend.

Flopping tremendously on it's opening day, Ridley Scott's The Counselor looks ready to finish fourth by the end of the weekend. Despite boasting an impressive cast, including Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, the film only made a measly $3.2 mil. on Friday. The film looks set to follow an onslaught of negative reviews to take home just under $10 mil. by the end of the weekend.

The studio recently claimed that Cormac McCarthy's screenwriting debut only cost $25 mil. to make, but that still might be a hard to reach total as it continues to be savaged by the critics. The film should make back it's cost with help from the overseas market however.
