Warner Bros Entrusts Guy Ritchie With The Next Big Movie Franchise, Arthur?

Warner Bros are in talks with British director Guy Ritchie to helm a retelling of the Arthurian legend across six movies. The series has been created by Joby Harold who has written the script for the first movie. He's probably best known for adapting Frank Miller's Ronin for the studio as well as writing Tom Cruise's forthcoming movie Edge of Tomorrow.

Sherlock HolmesGuy Ritchie Could Be Directing SIX Arthur Movies for Warner Bros

According to Mike Fleming Jr at Deadline.com, Richie and his partner Lionel Wigram previously developed a version of the King Arthur saga based on a script by Trainspotting writer John Hodge but it eventually ran out of stream.

Warner Bros has also previously attempted to get King Arthur's story onto the big-screen, almost going into production with David Dobkin's Arthur & Lancelot. Colin Farrell and Game of Thrones' Kit Harington were being talked about for the role of Arthur, while Robocop's Joel Kinnaman was set to play Lancelot. Gary Oldman was reportedly being chased for the role of Merlin. In the end, the $130 million budget was considered unworkable.

Warners also considered remaking the 1981 movie Excalibur with Bryan Singer as director.

Guy Ritchie is currently filming The Man From U.N.C.L.E with Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer. After missteps in the form of Revolver, Swept Away and RocknRolla, the British filmmaker recently helmed the two Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law. They grossed over $1 billion at the box-office.
