A green blimp emblazoned with the Aphex Twin logo and ‘2014’ has been seen flying over London, suggesting that Richard D. James is set to release something this year. The blimp, which was seen hovering over London’s Oval Space, Hackney, was unmistakable, and lead to news of Twin’s impending project spreading like wildfire over social media.

Neither Warp Records or James have confirmed anything yet, but fans are looking at the iconic label’s upcoming 25th anniversary as a possible date for either a full release or some new information surrounding the enigmatic blimp.

In 2010, James announced that he had completed six albums, as well as "loads of tracks which don't belong anywhere". He said: "Two are very non-commercial, abstract, modular-synthesis, field recordings – those I finished four years ago. Another one is 'Melodies From Mars', which I redid about three years ago.

He added: "There's one of stuff I won't go into; a comp of old tracks. Which is never really finished and always changing; and then one I'm working on now. There are also loads of tracks which don't belong anywhere."

And recently, a Kickstarter-funded fan campaign to obtain and distribute Aphex Twin’s legendary Caustic Window double LP, which was completed but never released in 1994, was okayed by James himself. Thousands of people donated to the cause, each receiving a digital copy of the album; the purchased test-pressing was then sold on eBay for $46,300.

With nothing confirmed, it’s up to Aphex Twin fans to ruminate and speculate over what the perrenially enigmatic Richard D. James is up to. But given the amount of music he has in the can and the recently publicity stunt, it would be a huge shock if we didn’t see anything new from him in the next 4/5 months.
