Live-Action, Performance Capture, Whatever - Andy Serkis is In 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'
Serkis joins the Marvel film, but we don't know how or as what
Andy Serkis, famous for his work with CGI and his performance as Golem in The Lord of The Rings films, has confirmed that he’ll be appearing in the the upcoming Avengers film, Age of Ultron.
Talking in an interview with Variety, Serkis said: "The Imaginarium is the performance capture consultant and I'm playing a role [in both Avengers and Star Wars]. On Avengers, I've been working closely with Mark Ruffalo."

Serkis’ involvement with performance capture and CGI techniques has been extensive. So when asked if he – or a technically produces manifestation of himself – would appear in the film, he said: "I'm not at liberty to mention. But it's all the same to me. I've never drawn a distinction when playing a role, whether it be live action or performance capture. Acting is acting. It's just basically what you wear to the set that's different."
Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and actress Scarlett Johansson will be reprising their roles as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow respectively for Age of Ultron, while Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as The Vision and James Spader as the new villain Ultron are newcomers.
The film is set to build on 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers success. The film helped to kick off Marvel’s ‘phase one’, and did so with gusto; critical acclaim and a huge financial box, taking the film past the $1.5bn on a global scale, followed its release. Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in the UK on April 24 2015, while Star Wars: Episode VII – also starring Serkis will be released in December 2015.
