Adam Sandler's 'Most Overpaid' Title is Worrying - Just Ask Nicole Kidman

Adam Sandler was unsurprisingly named the most overpaid actor in Hollywood this week - which was fairly obvious to everyone, anyway. Despite some sizable successes in the past 15 years or so, the 47-year-old has suffered a slew of horrible movies that have returned only middling amounts at the box office.

Forbes estimates that his last three movies pulled in $3.40 for every $1 the actor was paid. His flop That's My Boy - which one critic called "vulgar, tasteless, mean-spirited and most offensive of all - not funny" - cost around $70 million to make but lost money with returns of just $57 million.

It's not completely terrible news for Sander, given the list uses the last three films an actor has starred in over the past three years. That means that his comedy Grown Ups 2 - which did well commercially - did not count.

However, Forbes 'most overpaid' list does appear to be a poisoned chalice. In 2008, Nicole Kidman topped the list after her movies were found to make $1 for every $1 she was paid. She broke even. Her number one placing was essentially down to her appearance in the ridiculously bad horror The Invasion - which pulled in only $15 million at the box-office though things didn't get much better for Kidman after that and in 2009 her big-budget musical Nine pulled in just $50 million (on a budget of $80 million). Her dreary drama Rabbit Hole only broke even with $5 million one year later.

Things began to look up for Kidman when Just Go With It (also starring Sandler) pulled in $240 million on a budget of $80 million, though The Paperboy and Stoker hardly even broke even with $2 million and $5 million hauls respectively.

And we probably don't have to remind Sandler that Eddie Murphy was the most overpaid last year.
