Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul Answers Reddit Questions: "It's A Dark Road To The Finale"

Aaron Paul hit the jackpot with Breaking Bad. His character, Jesse Pinkman, often provides moments of much needed comic relief while the show takes dark routes. He participated in a ask me anything session on Reddit last night, and fans were waiting in the wings to ask their on-screen hero… anything.

Breaking Bad returned on Sunday (Aug 11) and did so with a bang, getting straight to the cliff-hanger left at the end of the mid-season finale. In ‘Blood Money’, Aaron paints a sombre, disdainful Jesse, mistrusting of Walter – the man he put so much effort and trust into. With only seven episodes left, it’ll be fascinating to see where the various characters go, especially after Walt and Hank’s confrontation.

For Paul, though, the end of AMC’s behemoth drama represents a dichotomy of sorts. On the one hand, ending the show means unemployment, on the other, artistic hand, ending the show at the right time is imperative to its legacy.

"I never wanted Breaking Bad to end, simply because I'm a huge fan of the show and I didn't want to be unemployed," he told one happy Reddit user. "But after reading the final eight episodes and understanding where the writers are going with it, I'm so happy they ended it the way they did, and I think all of you will be happy as well. It's a dark, crazy ride to the final episode but it is a fun one. Yeah, bitch."

He also delved into preparation for the role, which saw him turn from low-level drug manufacturer to addict, to cartel ‘employee’, with a few emotional downturns on the way. To do this, he was around "former addicts and people that were using at that moment" in order to gain insight. "I wanted to try and bring as much honesty to this character as I could, and I saw a darker side to people that I've never witnessed before," he said.

There have been many fantastic scenes featuring Pinkman and White; their on-screen chemistry is a vital aspect of the show. But for Paul, the scene in which Jesse breaks the barrier and enters the family home, subsequently enjoying an awkward dinner with Walt and Skyer was his favourite. He answered the question: "the infamous dinner scene with Mr. and Mrs. White. I think the glass of water became Jesse's security blanket in a way, and I love that about that scene," he said.

Breaking Bad continues with season five this Sunday, August 18th on AMC followed by Netflix and Google TV.
