2014 SAG Awards: Matthew McConaughey Awarded Best Male Lead Actor For 'Dallas Buyers Club' Role

Matthew McConaughey kept his winning streak alive on Saturday night (Jan 18th) as he was prized with Best Male Lead Actor at the Screen Actors Guild award ceremony.

The 42 year-old actor won the award for his portrayal of HIV patient Ron Woodroof in 'Dallas Buyers Club'.

On receiving the honor, McConaughey gave a very passionate, and lengthy speech citing his fellow nominees and the role he depicted.

"Oh this feels good, thank you. I mean, coming from SAG-AFTRA members.I've been doing this 22 years and we all know this thing we get to do, when it works and when it doesn't work so well," he said.

"Thank you. To the nominees, not just in this category but so many."

The 'Magic Mike' actor then went on to discuss his character and the true story behind the movie.

"We got an important story about an important time in American and the world. The people who had HIV, how are they dealt with? How are they now? Is it dealt with now? It's still very relevant," he continued.

"You had Ron Woodruff, a guy who had the clearest obsession of all-I'm obsessed to stay alive. He was given 30 days to live and goes on and lives seven more years."

The remarkable tale follows Woodroof, after being diagnosed with HIV he has abandoned by his friends and associates, doctors gave up hope and gave him 30 days to live. He then takes matters into his own hands and ships in various 'cures' and treatments from across the globe.

Soon Woodroof begins to build up an overabundance of supplies and starts distributing them among other diagnosed individuals who have been forced to fend for themselves like he has.

Jennifer Garner and Jared Leto are among the people he meets on these travels, and they have also received critical acclaim for their performances.

Is this an indication of what is to be expected from the Oscars? Could McConaughey receive his first Academy-Award for Best Actor?
