Could Arnold Schwarzenegger be preparing to run for the US Senate in 2018? And, if so, how much will it irritate the President of the United States, and Schwarzenegger’s former boss, Donald Trump? Political insiders have suggested both are possible.

Arnold SchwarzeneggerArnie could very well 'Be Back'

The feud between both the two - who are both celebrities turned politicians with Arnie previously the Governor of California as part of the Republican party between 2003 and 2011 - has heated up even more so since Trump took the top office.

Despite that fact The Donald is now the leader of the free world, he has taken time out of his numerous duties to slam the Terminator actor who took over from President Trump on Celebrity Apprentice - subsequently quitting in early March.

However, Arnie’s push for the Senate as an Independent could turn the tables in his favour with one insider in the GOP claiming it "would give Arnold the stage to jam Trump for the next 16 months" thanks to his high-profile name and focus on climate change and the minimum wage.

When leaving NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, Arnold cited the President of the United States as the reason he quit the programme.

The Austrian actor said: "With Trump being involved in the show people have a bad taste and don’t want to participate as a spectator or as a sponsor or in any other way support the show."

Schwarzenegger’s spokesman Daniel Ketchell did not rule out a possible Senate run when asked to respond to the speculation.

He said: "Right now Gov. Schwarzenegger’s focus is on using his platform to bring some sensibility and coherency to Washington by fighting for redistricting reform, like we did in California."

Speaking to Politico he added: "We are keeping all of our options open as far as how we can accomplish that."
