Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Hollywood actor turned Governor of California, has admitted he fathered a child with a long-term member of his household staff over ten years ago, reports the Los Angeles Times. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver recently separated after the actor finally admitted the paternity.
The mother of Schwarzenegger's child worked for the family for 20 years, but retired in January 2011. In a statement made on Monday evening (15th May 2011), the Terminator star acknowledged that he was the father, saying, "After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago.I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry". In order to protect privacy, the Los Angeles Times are refusing to publish the name of the former staffer or the identity of the child. The mystery woman said she voluntarily left the Schwarzenegger household after reaching her goal of working for them for two decades, saying, "I wanted to achieve my 20 years, then I asked to retire".
Arnold Schwarzenegger took financial responsibility for the child since the birth and continues to provide support. The actor and his wife announced their separation in a joint statement this week, having been married for 25 years.
