Arnold Schwarzenegger took his time to decide to run for Governor of California - because he had to weigh up the cost of politics for his family.
The action star made his announcement on pal Jay Leno's latenight American TV chat show on Wednesday night (06AUG03) after a week of speculation.
Schwarzenegger will join close to 300 other wannabe governors when they attempt to overthrow current leader Gray Davis.
And he admits it wasn't an easy choice to make, "I had a lot of conversations with my wife MARIA (SHRIVER), who is the greatest wife that anyone could ever dream of.
"There's a lot of sacrifices to be made - the movie career, financial and business dealings, there will be less time for the children, and the move to Sacramento, and on and on and on.
"But, for me, it was very clear - 1.6 million people in California signed the petition that said we want to remove Gray Davis. They basically said, 'We're as mad as hell, and we're not gonna take it anymore.'
"That message is not just for California. That's a message from California to all the politicians to say to them, 'Do your job for the people and do it well, or otherwise you are out.' Hasta la vista, baby!"08/08/2003 17:18
