Dizzee Rascal says was influenced by his track 'Bonkers'.

Black Eyed Peas singer and producer took his band to new heights of popularity in 2009 with the dance pop sound of tracks such as 'I Gotta Feeling' and 'Boom Boom Pow', and Dizzee says his single - released the same year and produced by influential DJ Armand Van Helden - was an influence on them.

He told The Guardian newspaper: ''We took 'Bonkers' around and they weren't ready for it, and now that's what everyone's doing, and every big producer I meet, like, talks about how they were influenced by Bonkers and it's like, oh, for f**k's sake, do you know what I mean?''

Dizzee Rascal's Bonkers Shock

Dizzee Rascal Armand Van Helden

Dizzee Rascal is "amazed" by the success of 'Bonkers'.

The rapper - real name Dylan Mills - saw the collaboration with Armand Van Helden top the UK singles chart in May and admits he thought it was "too gritty" to be a commercial success.

He said: "Armand sent me the tune, I heard it, wrote to it. Then we sat on it for ages, didn't really play it out or anything and then the one time I performed it live, it was bigger than 'Dance Wiv Me' at the time 'Dance Wiv Me' was number one.

Dizzee Rascal has turned down collaborations with The Ting Tings and Franz Ferdinand.

The UK rapper had phenomenal success teaming up with Calvin Harris on his single 'Dance Wiv Me', and is joined by DJ Armand Van Helden on current number one single 'Bonkers', but has now decided to focus on his developing his own sound.

He said: "There were the opportunities to work with The Ting Tings and Franz, but I decided not to go with them. My album, which will be out in September, is a total club record and it's not what people are going to expect.

Rappers Dizzee Rascal and Eminem have claimed the fastest-selling number one records of the year in the singles and album charts.

Grime star Dizzee has shot to the top of the charts with new single Bonkers, featuring Armand Van Helden, while Eminem's comeback album Relapse, his first studio LP in four years, is straight in at number one in the album charts.

While Eminem's new effort is an unsurprising record breaker, given his Grammy winning success, Dizzee Rascal's number one achievement is remarkable, with Bonkers confirmed as the fastest-selling single of the year after only four days on sale, according to the Official Charts Company.

Bonkers is the Mercury Prize winner's second number one single, having topped the charts earlier this year with Dance Wiv Me (featuring Calvin Harris), the winner of NME's best dancefloor filler award.

The top five fastest-selling singles of 2009 so far are:

1 Dizzee Rascal - Bonkers
2 Jenkins/West/Jones/Gibb - Islands In The Stream
3 Lily Allen - The Fear
4 Lady Gaga - Just Dance
5 Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow

The top five fastest-selling albums of 2009 so far are:

1 Eminem - Relapse
2 U2 - No Line On The Horizon
3 Lily Allen - It's Not You It's Me
4 Prodigy - Invaders Must Die
5 Ronan Keating - Songs For My Mother
