Folk star Arlo Guthrie is performing two concerts in New Orleans to raise money for musicians left impoverished by Hurricane Katrina.

The singer has been playing in cities en route to the Louisiana city for the past two weeks, a tour culminating with two gigs in New Orleans, on Friday and Saturday night (17/18DEC05).

He is due to perform alongside country legend Willie Nelson tonight.

Guthrie, who had a hit in 1972 with CITY OF NEW ORLEANS, says, "I didn't know how much anyone could do. We're just going to see if we can make a little dent in what's going on."

Money raised, plus equipment donated, will be distributed among performers, churches and schools.
