Soul legend Aretha Franklin has cancelled her North Carolina concert on Wednesday (15JUN05) - because she "wants the day off".

The music veteran, 63, was scheduled to perform at the Koka Booth Amphitheater in Cary, for which 3,000 tickets have been sold so far.

JIM MALLONEE, House of Blues' vice president of South east concerts, says, "From what I was told, she's just insisted - after going on sale, and us investing money, and people getting excited in the Triangle, and so on - that she just wants to take the day off - which to me is just bizarre."

Franklin is still expected to perform her dates at Harrah's in Atlantic City, New Jersey this weekend (10-11JUN05) and Atlanta, Georgia next weekend (19JUN05).

DICK ALEN of the WILLIAM MORRIS AGENCY says the I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER hitmaker only wants to perform three or four times a month, but will reschedule the Cary concert next year (06).
