Singer Aretha Franklin is skipping the holiday festivities to finish her new album.

The Respect hitmaker is set to release her latest record next year (14), and has decided to work through Christmas in order to complete it on time.

She explains, "You will hear it early spring, around April. We'll be in the studio over the Christmas holiday."

The Queen of Soul is such a fan of the holidays, she usually hosts a big party for friends and family in her native Detroit, Michigan.

She hosted a glitzy event at the Detroit Athletic Club two days before Christmas in 2011, and booked Gwen & Charles Scales, her son Eddie Franklin, Duke Fakir and the Four Tops to perform.

The star even took the microphone herself at the end of the night to sing Silent Night with the Four Tops.
