Legendary singer Aretha Franklin is to be feted at a concert organised by officials at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz next month (Sep11).
The Queen of Soul will be the guest of honour at the gala, which will also mark the 25th anniversary of the institute founded in memory of jazz pianist Thelonious Monk.
Franklin, who sang jazz at the start of her career, will also receive the Founder's Award, following in the footsteps of previous recipients Herbie Hancock, Dianne Reeves and Dee Dee Bridgewater.
The concert will be held on 12 September at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
