Soul icon Aretha Franklin is celebrating her 70th birthday by reuniting with legendary producer Clive Davis for her next album.
The Respect hitmaker, who reached the milestone on Sunday (25Mar12), reveals she is planning on heading back into the studio with Davis to work on her 38th studio release, more than 30 years after the music mogul helped to orchestrate her comeback in the early 1980s following her fall out with her then-bosses at Atlantic Records.
She tells the Associated Press, "I have re-signed with Clive Davis, so I'm recording with Clive again... We're going to sit together and decide what it is we're going to record."
Sony Music Entertainment chief Davis was one of the guests at Franklin's birthday party in New York on Saturday (24Mar12), where she marked her birthday with a dinner at the posh Helmsley Park Lane Hotel.
Attendees, including Franklin's partner and former fiance, Willie Wilkerson, were also treated to a dance performance and a show by up-and-coming jazz pianist Kris Bowers, before the birthday girl was presented with a three-tier cake.
Franklin's last album, 2011's A Woman Falling Out of Love, was released on her own label, Aretha's Records.
