Soul singer Aretha Franklin has recruited a new pianist to join her touring ensemble after he impressed her at an international music competition on Sunday (11Sep11).
The Respect hitmaker made a surprise appearance at the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition in Washington, D.C. to check out the event's talent, and she was so taken by student Kris Bowers, she asked her manager to escort the semi-finalist off to a quiet corner so she could offer him a job.
A source tells the New York Post, "She told him she would like him to be her piano player from now on. Kris ended up winning the whole competition, so Aretha knows how to pick 'em."
