The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, has announced that she has become engaged to her long-term partner William 'Willie' Wilkerson. According to a report in the Daily Mail, the singer said that they are considering a summer wedding, possibly on Miami Beach in Florida. She joked "No, I'm not pregnant."
The soul singer is reportedly considering who she would like to design her wedding dress. The designers Vera Wang, Valentino and Donna Karan are all said to be in the running. The marriage to Wilkinson will be the third for Franklin. In the 1960s, she was married to her manager Ted White before marrying the actor Glynn Turman, with whom she split in 1984. Last year, Franklin lost 85lbs and was also reported to have suffered from a serious illness, which required major surgery. However, she denied claims that she was suffering from pancreatic cancer.
Franklin and Wilkerson join a growing list of celebrities who have announced their wedding engagements over the holiday period. Others to have done so include Holly Valance and Nick Candy, Chris O'Dowd and Dawn Porter, Matthew Mcconaughey and Camila Alves and Steven Tyler and Erin Brady.
