Rock newcomers Arctic Monkeys are refusing to perform at the Brit Awards next month (FEB06), because of their intense dislike of televised performances.

Brit Awards bosses are desperate to persuade the band, whose debut album WHATEVER PEOPLE SAY I AM, THAT'S WHAT I'M NOT is tipped to become the fastest selling disc in UK history following its Monday (23JAN06) release, to make an appearance.

But, despite a star-studded line-up that includes Coldplay, Gorillaz and Kanye West, the Arctic Monkeys have declined the chance to bring their music to global TV viewers.

A band insider says, "The awards are screened around the world and are a great showcase.

"But the lads hate doing TV shows. They feel it's a bit uncool and that they have so much hype surrounding them it is unnecessary to be there.

"They only did one TV show for (UK TV show) T4 and hated every minute. They have vowed never to go on Top Of The Pops or CD:UK."
