I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor
An addictively hooky two-track single from yet another band hailed as the 'next big thing'. Who knows? Maybe they are. Their hard-bitten, very British lyrics make them the heirs to Pulp's working class throne, with only Mike Skinner knocking out such witty, well-observed lines – though in a totally different genre.
You can almost smell the snakebite in the student union as soon as this fast-paced offering kicks in. It's a tougher, more down-to-earth and less pretentious take on today's fashionable sound, with some of the light-heartedness of the likes of the Wonderstuff and The Charmers back in the day. It's worth knowing that the second track on this single, Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts, is easily as good as the 'a-side' and is full of sparkle and wit.
