Canadian rockers Arcade Fire have scooped their native country's top music prize for their Grammy-winning album The Suburbs.
The band's hit record was the favourite to take the Polaris Award and it was announced as the winner on Monday (19Sep11) at a ceremony in Toronto, Canada.
The Suburbs was up against offerings from lesser known Canadian artists including Austra, Ron Sexsmith, Colin Stetson and Timber Timbre, and Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler is glad the other acts were also given a chance to showcase their work.
He says, "It doesn't matter if you've heard of a band before, they can still be the best thing in the world. And if you haven't heard of them, it doesn't mean they suck."
