A 22-year-old Economics student from Hanover, Germany, has received a gift card worth 10,000 Euros for downloading the 25th billion iTunes track. Phillip Luepke downloaded the obscure techno song 'Monkey Drums (Goksel Vancin Remix) by British DJ Chase Buch, and resultantly got an email from Apple, telling him the good news.

"I was very surprised to hear the news," Luepke told Reuters, "I woke up this morning and had an email from Apple saying I had the 25 billionth download. In fact, I didn't quite believe it at first. It's a new feeling for me." Phillip came across the dance track while at a disco last Saturday night, using the song-identification application Shazam to look up its name before downloading it the following evening. Luepke says he will celebrate winning the 10,000 euros iTunes gift voucher by enjoying a few beers with friends.

Apple launched the iTunes store in April 2003 and has averaged around 15,000 song downloads each minute. The store has a catalogue of more than 26 million songs from 119 countries.
