Actor Anthony Mackie jumped at the chance to star in the new Captain America sequel after bombarding Marvel film executives with phone calls and letters to campaign for a role in a superhero franchise.
The Hurt Locker star reveals he had been lobbying for a job in a comic book movie adaptation since the success of Iron Man in 2008, and his hard work paid off when studio bosses offered him the part of Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
He tells the New York Daily News, "We would call and write letters after The Hurt Locker, saying we would love to be a part of the Marvel Universe.
"I thought it was a no-brainer for there to be a black superhero movie in the time of superhero movies. And it got to the point where we harassed them so much, they went, 'Don't call us anymore, we'll call you.'"
