Boy Better Know Red Bull

Boy Better Know arrive at the Red Bull Culture Clash in London ... but did they win?

There was an urban music clash for the ages going on down in London last night (November 7) as four troupes of some of the biggest names in UK dub-step, grime, garage and bass music appeared on four seperate stages set up within the confines of Wembley Arena, in a battle to determine who would cause the loudest reaction from the crowd and thus walk of champions of the night. Decibel meters measured the crowd's response to each stage, and each group pulled out all the stops to make sure they got the big W. So who were the teams?

Example [Left] and P Money [Right] were just two of the mega stars Annie Mac and Magnetic Man bought out to try and get the win for their stage

Annie Mac and Magnetic Man put in a call to as many of their peers as possible, and a star studded string of guest appearances littered their stage, from Example and P Money to rising star Katy B, Maverick Sabre and Ms Dynamite. Rita Ora was one of the biggest names who Major Lazer had in their arsenal, however embarrassment struck as she suffered a wardrobe malfunction, which might well have won her cheers, but not for the reasons she'd have wanted.

Rita Ora Red Bull Malfunction

Rita Ora's wardrobe malfunction got a few cheers, as you would imagine.

Thankfully Mazor Lazer - led by producer Diplo - had more than a few other tricks up their sleeves culminating in the presenting by far the biggest star of the night in American R&B legend Usher! That got some voices roaring, and pretty much buried reggae veterans Channel One who provided a set high on class but low on cameos.

Usher Red Bull

Even among a star-studded bill, the surprise appearance of Usher caused jaws to drop as the American star did his part for team Major Lazer

So with Usher on their side and an (albeit unplanned) flash of flesh from Rita Ora to boot, surely Major Lazer had this done and dusted? Well, they'd not counted on the aggressive force of grime star Wiley and the Boy Better Know crew who, bolstered by Lethal Bizzle and Chipmunk, sent the place off during their allotted 15 minute segment. With veteran DJ Tim Westwood and his BBC 6music show co-host Gemma Cairney there to have the final say, they announced Boy Better Know as the winners of raucous and hugely enjoyable night.
