British actress Anna Friel is celebrating after successfully campaigning to stop oil company bosses invading the natural habitat of mountain gorillas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The Pushing Daisies star threw her support behind the campaign to prevent executives at British oil firm Soco from drilling in a national park which is home to endangered mountain gorillas after visiting the nation's Virunga National Park.
Soco bosses have now agreed to stop exploring the area, and have also vowed to steer clear of all other UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Virunga.
Friel tells Britian's Daily Mirror newspaper, "We can't have expected a better outcome. I thought it was going to take longer. It shows that sometimes hard work pays off. Often we feel powerless, but together we can make a difference."
