Animal House Actor Stephen Furst Has Accused Bosses Behind The Oscars Of "Scapegoating" Veteran Academy Members To "Deflect The Criticism About The Lack Of Diversity" In This Year's (16) Nominees.
The 60 year old, who is also known for his role on sci-fi show Babylon 5, has written an open letter to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences condemning plans to cut older voters to make way for a more diverse range of members.
The move was announced following the furore over the 2016 nominations which provoked a storm of criticism after no black actors landed nods in the leading categories for the second consecutive year.
The new rules state voting privileges will be taken away from anyone who has gone longer than 10 years without working in Hollywood, and Furst fears older members of the Academy have been unfairly targeted.

Theatre mogul Matty Simmons has announced plans to stage John Landis' cult 1978 comedy National Lampoon's Animal House, which starred John Belushi and Kevin Bacon.
The screenplay has been adapted by Douglas Kenney, Chris Miller and Harold Ramis - based on Miller's experiences as a student at the prestigious Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.
Former THE POLICE guitarist ANDY SUMMERS once took magic mushrooms with late actor John Belushi, and ended up rolling around in mud in the middle of a monsoon.
In his autobiography ONE TRAIN LATER, the 1980s hitmaker remembers letting off steam at the end of a world tour by renting a Jeep in Bali with Animal House star Belushi.
He writes, "We just fell down into the road and rolled about in the newly formed puddles like deranged children."
Classic 1978 comedy Animal House has been voted the best beer-drinking movie of all time, in a poll by American brewery Heartland. Fans of the fraternity flick will be raising their glasses after learning the movie has beaten off competition from Paul Newman movie COOL HAND LUKE and 2003 comedy Old School. But Heartland boss JON BLOOSTEIN was disappointed that The Deer Hunter, starring Robert De Niro, only came in at 11th place. He says, "I was disappointed The Deer Hunter didn't place higher. That was responsible for the resurgence of Rolling Rock beer." The full list of drink-guzzling movies is as follows: 1. NATIONAL LAMPOON'S ANIMAL HOUSE 2. OLD SCHOOL 3. The Shawshank Redemption 4. The Graduate 5. TITANIC 6. SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT 7. ET THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL 8. COOL HAND LUKE 9. National Lampoon's Vacation 10. BACK TO SCHOOL 11. THE DEER HUNTER 12. All About Eve.

The actor is more famous for lighter roles earlier in his career, like FOOTLOOSE and Animal House.
