Angelina Jolie thanks her new movie BEYOND BORDERS for inspiring her to devote time to charitable causes.
Since visiting some of the world's poorest and most dangerous countries researching and shooting the movie, Jolie has become a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNITED NATIONS (UN) and adopted a baby son, MADDOX, from Cambodia.
Beyond Borders was a critical and box office flop, but Jolie - who plays a wealthy socialite who discovers humanitarian causes - says the film opened her eyes to the world's troubles.
She reveals, "When I read the script five years ago it started to change me. It just inspired me to start travelling and to educate myself.
"I wanted to learn more. I sat up one night and felt I should be more responsible about what I was doing with my life an have more purpose.
"I didn't plan to become a Goodwill Ambassador or to joint the UN, I just wanted to travel to these countries, meet these people and try to understand. Then I started wanting to get more people interested in these things.
"I get really angry at the lack of certain things being done or things I feel should be happening. I recently spoke at (the US) congress when I lobbied a Bill. So I've started to get more involved. But none of it has been planned. It just happens."13/11/2003 14:17
