The Hollywood beauty revealed on Tuesday (14May13) that she had undergone the drastic surgery in February (13) as a preventative measure after doctors warned her she was at high risk of developing breast cancer - because she carried the "faulty" gene, Brca1.
Her fiance Brad Pitt subsequently hailed Jolie, a mum of six, for her "absolutely heroic" decision and now her actor brother Haven has expressed his feelings about his superstar sibling's actions, simply stating: "I am so grateful to be her brother."
And Pitt's mum, Jane, has also given her backing to the Wanted star: "We're so very proud of Angie, this means so much to our family, especially our grandchildren. We love her dearly."
Jolie's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died in 2007 at the age of 56 after battling ovarian cancer for almost a decade.
Meanwhile, veteran actress Kathy Bates, who underwent similar surgery last year (12) after doctors found a lump in her breast, has applauded Jolie and warned female fans to pay close attention to their ever-changing bodies.
In a series of Twitter.com posts on Tuesday, Bates writes, "I admire Angelina's courage in facing this dreaded disease and her classy way of sharing her story with us. I tested negative for Brca 1 & 2. Had both breast & ovarian cancer. Examine your breasts, regular mammograms. Stay vigilant."
