Angelina Jolie, acting as a Goodwill ambassador for the UNHCR, has opened an all-girls primary school just outside Kabul, Afghanistan. The area has been ravaged by war and regional fighting in recent years, though since the collapse of the Taliban regime, families are beginning to return to the villages.

The new school educates between 200 and 300 girls and is already making a huge impact on the local community. Jolie plans to open similar institutions in the country, vowing that this will be the first of many. Bankrolling the whole thing is Jolie's personally designed jewellery collection, The Style of Jolie, which is about to hit stores for the first time. She will use the profits to build even more schools in Afghanistan and around the world. "Beyond enjoying the artistic satisfaction of designing these jewels, we are inspired by knowing our work is also serving the mutual goal of providing for children in need," Jolie told E! News.

Should you want to get your hands on Jolie's jewellery range and do your bit for a good cause, it will go on sale this week. "The beauty of these creations is matched by the beauty of spirit behind Angelina's most heartfelt mission-to empower children in crisis," said designer Robert Procop, "The first funds from our collaboration together have been dedicated to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict and we have recently completed a school in Afghanistan."

The Style of Jolie will be available exclusively in Tivol, a Kansas City jeweller.
