Step on it Driver! Andy Murray Races Through London to Make OBE Award

Andy Murray Prince William

The very last thing you want – apart from a death in the family or an alien abduction – on the day of your OBE award, is a random drugs test. Luckily for Andy Murray instead of steroids and performance enhancing drugs, he feeds on shortbread and the pride of a nation he’s not from. Oh, and he made it on time.

"They turned up at my door at 8.20am and I had a taxi booked for half past eight. I was a bit worried I was going to be late but the taxi did a great job in getting us here,” explained Andy, who isn’t considering giving his taxi driver his OBE, but probably should.

Andy Murray To Appear On Remix of Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines'?

Robin Thicke Andy Murray Pharrell Williams

Andy Murray. Wimbledon champion. US Open champion. Olympic champion. The greatest tennis player in Britain. Pop-star.

Wait, what?

Yep, it looks as though old Muzza might be heading into the music business - if Robin Thicke has his way anyhow. The singer - whose smash hit single 'Blurred Lines' is the fastest selling track of the year - has revealed his plans to release a remix of the song featuring Murray himself. Discussing his plans on ITV's Lorraine programme, Robin explained, "I think I'm going to do a remix with Andy Murray," saying he would shoot a new video with a sports twist, specifically, "Beautiful girls in various tennis outfits with rackets strategically placed." We're not sure Murray would be up for this collaboration, given the state of his music taste.

Is 3D Finally Showing Its Cracks? BBC Suspend It Indefinitely

Andy Murray

3D has been a mixed bag since it arrived on the scene, primarily in cinemas. Some people love it, some people hate it, and some people find the glasses really annoying. The BBC haven't publically admitted to any of those opinions, but they have suspended their 3D programming indefinitely, which normally means forever.

In an interview with the Radio Times, Kim Shillinglaw, the BBC's head of 3D, said, "I have never seen a very big appetite for 3D television in the UK. I think when people watch TV they concentrate in a different way. When people go to the cinema they go and are used to doing one thing - I think that's one of the reasons that take up of 3D TV has been disappointing."

The remaining 3D shows will run their course before the medium is shut down for a while. Among the final shows televised in 3D as part of the trial is the Doctor Who anniversary special, which will air in November. Last year's Wimbledon finals were the first programmes to be shown in 3D by the BBC. This year, they'll air both the men's and ladies Wimbledon semi-finals and finals in 3D, possibly for the last time.

Garry Richardson's Interview With Andy Murray - "He Apologised Afterwards"

Andy Murray

Andy Murray’s Wimbledon 2012 was hanging in the balance. Two sets down to Fernando Verasco, it would take some serious heart to get back and win to stay in the tournament. Luckily, for Murray and all the Brits watching, he did. But a strange interview followed.

Garry Richardson, a BBC sports journalist, said: “Sir Alex Ferguson was in the Royal Box today watching you. He's been known to go into the dressing room after matches and give his players a bit of hairdryer treatment. Will Lendl say some things to you Andy to sort of gee you up or do you not need that? Do you know it all yourself?” Sir Alex is a fellow Scot, and one of Murray’s heroes. He’s just quit Manchester United so has plenty of time to do things like watching tennis. Murray answered: “I don't know it all, far from it. But I don't see why I should get told off after that. I tried incredibly hard, chased every single ball down from the first to the last and I came through an incredibly tough match. It could have gone the other way but I found a way through.”

Ever wanted to know what Andy Murray and his fellow Wimbledon competitors listen to before heading out onto centre court? Well, of course Roger Federer chills out to The National, Rafael Nadal listens to the soothing sounds of Spanish guitars and Djokovic listens to early Oasis. Obviously.

But what about young Murray? With pretty much everyone in Britain anticipating him to win his first Wimbledon title, the Scottish star has shared his playlist with Spotify. It's made up of a couple of morale boosting stompers with some contemporary grooves in there for good measure. Worryingly, 1980's singer-songwriter and Meg Ryan's latest squeeze John Mellencamp makes two appearances on the list, as does Ed Sheeran. AC/DC's legendary rock anthem 'You Shook Me All Night Long' and Robin Thicke's No.1 track Blurred Lines also helps Andy remain focused. Apparently.

Jessica Ennis has topped a poll of the most searched sports personality in the UK, according to Yahoo UK, who ran the survey.

The gold medal winning heptathlete battled off competition from all corners of the sports spectrum to climb to the top of the table, with Olympians, footballers and tennis stars succumbing to the second fiddle behind Sheffield's biggest star.

Behind Jess was Andy Murray at number two, with another British female Olympiad taking the number three spot: Victoria Pendleton. Two more London 2012 heroes made the list, with Tom Daley at number five and Jamaica's most famous (living) son Usain Bolt at number ten.
