Andre 3000, singer with the multi-award winning hip-hop outfit Outkast, will play legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix in a forthcoming biopic. Andre will begin shooting the movie - written and directed by John Ridley - in Ireland later this month, according to the Irish Film and Television Network.
The movie - titled 'All Is By My Side' - will document Hendrix's period in England between 1966 and 1967, where he worked on his seminal debut album 'Are You Experienced'. The project is currently in the pre-production stages in Wicklow, and will begin shooting in Dublin and Wicklow in three weeks' time. Andre 3000 - real name Andre Benjamin - is best known for his work with Outkast, though he has made acting appearances in American television show 'The Shield' and Guy Richie's 'Revolver'. He will play Hendrix's rise to fame as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, though the movie will touch on his humble beginnings and how he was originally spotted in a New York club by Keith Richard's then girlfriend Linda Keith.
It is understood that locations pencilled in for the shoot include the Bray Head Hotel in Ireland, the John Player Cigarette Factory, numerous nightclubs in Bray, as well as locations in and around Dublin.
