A man accused of stalking revered U.S. newsman Anderson Cooper has been committed to a psychiatric facility after he was declared mentally unfit to stand trial.
Alex Hausner was hit with a handful of charges, including harassment and menacing, following his arrest in July (13), when he tried to kick down the door of the CNN broadcaster's New York home and threatened Cooper and his boyfriend, Benjamin Maisani.
He appeared in court on Tuesday (15Oct13), when Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Charles Solomon ruled Hausner, who suffers from schizophrenia, should remain in custody and be placed under doctors' care, reports the New York Post.
It is not yet known how long the suspect will remain in the psychiatric hospital before he is stable enough to face the charges.
Hausner had previously been slapped with a restraining order banning him from contacting Cooper and Maisani.
