The world is well and truly over the times when comedy used to be a male-centred entertainment faction. Nowawdays, it's the ladies of laughter keeping the smiles on our faces with the likes of heavenly duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and of course the iconically hilarious Amy Schumer.

So here's a little tribute to 10 comediennes of the world as 2016 approaches, and we hope to see a lot more of these ladies in the coming months.

Amy PoehlerAmy Poehler was the star of 'Parks and Recreation'

1. Amy Poehler - The former 'Saturday Night Live' star who won a Golden Globe for her role in the hilarious sitcom 'Parks and Recreation' is definitely one of the queens of American comedy. 'Parks And Rec' has officially cemented her thus, and she's become a staple for presenting at the annual Golden Globe Awards.

Tina FeyTina Fey is the perfect Amy Poehler counterpart

2. Tina Fey - Poehler and Fey are a match made in heaven when it comes to comedy. They both starred in 'SNL' together, both appeared in the most quotable chick flick ever 'Mean Girls', and now they're actually playing sisters in the upcoming movie er... 'Sisters'. Without her and Poehler's seamless one-liners, the Golden Globes wouldn't be worth watching.

Amy SchumerAmy Schumer is an empowering figure for women

3. Amy Schumer - It took one movie to propel this woman to international attention. 'Trainwreck' turned out to be the complete opposite of its namesake when it came to critics and box office sales; thanks to her creativity on the screenplay and shameless acting, it grossed $30.097 million in its opening weekend. But that's not the only reason we love her. She epitomises the idea of not taking oneseld seriously (remember when she pretended to fall in front of Kimye on the red carpet?) and recently showed off her curvy nude figure in the 2016 Pirelli Calendar.

Rebel WilsonRebel Wilson is Australia's funniest female comic

4. Rebel Wilson - Another comedienne totally unafraid to make fun of herself and, indeed, her body, this Australian beauty had us laughing since she appeared in 'Bridesmaids' in 2011. Her role as Fat Amy in 'Pitch Perfect' was another classic Wilson role and she totally stole the show as a British security guard in 'Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb'. Plus, she lives with British comic Matt Lucas - that's double funny in one house!

Ellen DeGeneresEllen DeGeneres is an LGBT icon

5. Ellen Degeneres - 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' is easily one of the funniest chat shows on television with her always amusing mid-interview games and cheeky style of questioning. Her gentle humour captivates everyone, and her voice is one of the most recognised in the world since she voiced Dory in 'Finding Nemo'. It goes without saying that she's a hugely important role model in LGBT society too.

Sarah SilvermanSarah Silverman is a stand-up legend

6. Sarah Silverman - Another 'Saturday Night Live' veteran who's also very popular for her stand-up gigs, Silverman was nominated for a Primetime Emmy when she launched her own TV show 'The Sarah Silverman Program' on Comedy Central. Her funniest moment in history is still that 'I'm F***ing Matt Damon' video she did for then-boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel in 2008, who responded with the equally funny 'I'm F***ing Ben Affleck'.

Melissa McCarthyWho ya gonna call? Melissa McCarthy!

7. Melissa McCarthy - McCarthy co-starred with Rebel Wilson in 'Bridesmaids' and currently appears alongside Billy Gardell in the sitcom 'Mike & Molly'. 'The Heat' and 'Identity Thief' proved to be some tremendously funny movies from this curvy star, but we cannot wait until she stars in the all-female 'Ghostbusters' re-boot.

Mindy KalingMindy Kaling landed her own show after 'The Office'

8. Mindy Kaling - Before she landed her own comedy show 'The Mindy Project' in 2012, Kaling played the mildly annoying celebrity lover Kelly Kapoor in 'The Office' and thus won our hearts. Her squeaky voice and feisty attitude are enough to steal any limelight and long may she continue to win awards for her performances.

Miranda HartMiranda Hart is one of Britain's favourite female comics

9. Miranda Hart - Standing at 6 foot 1 and almost chronically single, this British comedienne has the nation in stitches with her self-depricating comedy style. BBC sitcom 'Miranda' won her four British Comedy Awards and she even made her Hollywood debut this year opposide Melissa McCarthy in Paul Feig's 'Spy'.

Jennifer SaundersJennifer Saunders is bringing Ab Fab to the big screen

10. Jennifer Saunders - 'Absolutely Fabulous' indeed. We certainly have not seen the last of Eddy Monsoon because Saunders and her co-star Joanna Lumley are bringing their hilarious British sitcom to the big screen in 2016. Kim Kardashian is even thought to be making a special cameo, as is Rebel Wilson.
