Bassey was falsely said to have died, as announced by Manfred Mann's singer during a gig in Wales.

Dame Shirley Bassey has released a statement to re-assure fans that she is very much still alive, after a fellow singer wrongly announced to his audience during a concert that she had died.

During a gig in St. David’s Hall in Cardiff to celebrate the 1960s music scene on Wednesday night (March 7th), Manfred Mann signer Mike D’Abo announced to around 700 gig goers that the legendary singer had passed away. He said that he had taken a phone call prior to the concert and was told that Bassey had died, but that he hadn’t heard anything about the circumstances.

According to a report by a Wales Online report, there was an “audible gasp” of shock as the false reports spread.

Dame Shirley Bassey will release her first album in five years next month

Hello Like Before will consist entirely of versions of old songs from the twentieth century, most of which were originally performed by other artists but in some cases re-recordings of some of Bassey’s own tracks. For instance ‘Goldfinger’, unquestionably her signature song, makes an appearance on the tracklisting in a new form.

Oscars 2013: Dame Shirley Bassey Stuns Academy Awards With 'Goldfinger'

Dame Shirley Bassey performed Goldfinger during a James Bond tribute at the Oscars 2013.

Halle Berry introduced a celebration of fifty years of James Bond on-screen at the Oscars 2013 on Sunday night (February 24, 2013). The former Bond girl - wearing a stunning Versace dress - spoke briefly about the best-loved franchise before a promo of 007's finest moments played before the star-studded audience at the Dolby Theatre.

Dame Shirley Bassey promptly arrived on-stage to sing her classic Bond hit Goldfinger, herself dressed from head-to-toe in sparkly gold. The stage legend gave a typically effortlessly performance and was quite rightly given a huge round of applause by the celebrity audience, with actress Reese Witherspoon in particular appearing blown away from the rendition.

It's been a huge year for the Bond franchise, despite its future looking bleak just a couple of years ago. The casting of Daniel Craig strengthened the brand and his first movie Casino Royale pumped new life into the story of 007. However, it was last year's Skyfall - directed by Oscar winner Sam Mendes - that won Bond a whole new generation of fans. It quickly became the biggest Bond movie of all time while storming to the top of the all-time top UK grossing movies list. Craig signed on for additional films, while Sam Mendes is thought to be in discussions to helm the next movie too.

Oscars 2013: Will Shirley Bassey Belt Out Those James Bond Classics?

By Jack de Aguilar in Lifestyle / Showbiz on 09 February 2013

Shirley Bassey Adele Barbra Streisand James Bond

One thing popped into our heads when we learnt that Shirley Bassey would be performing at The Oscars 2013: Bond tunes.

She just has to give us one of Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, or Moonraker, otherwise we'll be deeply disappointed. Let's look at the facts, and there aren't many: it's Shirley Bassey; it's The Oscars, and it's the 50th anniversary of James Bond, 007. Nailed on, it has to be! "We are thrilled to welcome the legendary Dame Shirley Bassey to our Oscar show," producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a statement. "Her association with film music is world-renowned and we are proud that she will be making her first Oscar appearance on our telecast." She'll be joined - not on stage we don't think - by Adele and Barbara Streisand in a show that comprises three of the best singers around today. Oh and some film stars will be there too, we reckon.

Bond will be hoping for more than just a 50th anniversary celebration, which, for most film frachises would be a honour, but, given 007's paltry return from the Academy. Adele's Skyfall has been nominated for best original song at the 2013 Academy Awards; the first awards for the Bond franchise in more than 30 years, which, given the hugely popular response to Skyfall, is a disappointment in itself.

Has Adele Recorded A Song For The New James Bond Film ‘Skyfall’?

By Contributor on 18 September 2012

There has been no official announcement yet by Sony Pictures, but according to the BBC rumours are growing stronger that pop sensation Adele will be taking the vocal reigns of singing the official song for the 23rd James Bond movie. Many are surprised that Sony hasn’t yet made the move to announce who will be doing the Skyfall the theme song, which has traditionally been a big draw for artists – Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner and Sir Paul McCartney are just three who’ve written or collaborated on Bond themes in the past.

Several news outlets have started reporting that the deal has been confirmed, and the BBC have pointed to several quotes from last year that suggest the multi-million selling artist is going be the chosen voice for Skyfall. "I'm going back in the studio in November, fingers crossed," Adele told Jonathan Ross on his show last year, adding "Well this is actually a theme, what I've got to do for, um… Wow. That's really giving something away isn't it?”

Last year Adele’s pal Tinie Tempah seemed to suggest that she had recorded a song for the film too, saying "I was with her (Adele) yesterday, she was telling me about it and that's amazing. I've always wanted to do a Bond theme. I'm a bit jealous actually. No, let's leave it to her, it's always a really big diva that does it right?" Until that official word comes from Sony comes we still won’t know, but with the recent flurry of reports, it would seem highly likely that it will be Adele.

'Bond' Singer Adele To Follow In The Footsteps Of Shirley Bassey

By Jack de Aguilar on 17 September 2012

Adele Shirley Bassey Nancy Sinatra Jack White Daniel Craig Sam Mendes Judi Dench Javier Bardem Ralph Fiennes Naomie Harris Ben Whishaw

Adele’s ‘Bond’ theme will see the London songstress follow in the footsteps of singing greats Shirley Bassey and Nancy Sinatra, both of whom are responsible for recording some of the most recognizable 007 tunes in the secret agent’s 50 years in film.

The multiple Grammy award winner had long been rumoured to be handed the prestigious role for Sam Mendes’ forthcoming ‘Skyfall’ – again starring Daniel Craig – and Total Film.com confirmed the speculation this week. Adele’s single, named after the new movie, will be the first release from the star since ‘Turning Tables’ from her much-feted ‘21’ album. Given her phenomenally successful couple of years, Adele will certainly be a popular choice for the job and she boasts the kind of heavyweight soulful voice synonymous with the theme tune. One thing’s for sure: it’s almost certain to be an improvement on the poorly received tune ‘Another Way to Die’ by Jack White and Alicia Keys from 2008’s ‘Quantum of Solace’.

‘Skyfall’ – set to open in the UK on October 26 – stars Daniel Craig, alongside Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw.

Extra Glastonbury Tickets Snapped Up

Glastonbury Festival Arctic Monkeys Shirley Bassey The Killers The Who

An additional 20,000 tickets for this year's Glastonbury Festival sold out quickly on Sunday morning, to the delight of successful music fans who missed out in the main sale three weeks ago.

Today's tickets constituted those from the April 1st sale which were returned or where payment for the £145 tickets failed to process properly.

A total of 137,500 of the festival's 177,000 maximum capacity were sold three weeks ago using organiser Michael Eavis' new registration system, designed to beat ticket touts.

Previous ticket sales for the festival have been blighted by tickets appearing on internet auction websites soon after the annual sell-out is completed.

This year 400,000 applicants passed through the festival's online pre-registration process, which required them to provide photo identification.

Most of those will have failed to get tickets to the extremely popular festival, which returns after taking a break in 2006.

Headline acts already confirmed for this year's event include the Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, The Who and Dame Shirley Bassey.
