American comedy drama Nurse Jackie is to return for one final season.
Sad news for fans of the American dark comedy 'Nurse Jackie': the satirical hospital drama will be ending with its next season. Starring Sopranos alumni Edie Falco, the drama has been on the air since 2009 and follows the life of Nurse Jackie Peyton, an emergency department nurse at All Saints' Hospital in New York City who also has a mild addiction to prescription drugs.
Edie Falco has played Nurse Jackie since 2009
Since it began on television channel Showtime, 'Nurse Jackie' has received widespread praise from critics and maintained a strong viewership in the US. It initially aired on BBC Two in the UK, but moved to Sky Atlantic in 2011. Newcomers like 'House of Cards' and 'Master of Sex' replace the old guards like 'Mad Men' and 'Homefront' in the TV noms
The nominations for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards were revealed this week and although there were few surprises in the movie nominations; in the television categories however, it's time for change in the established order of critically-acclaimed TV. Former nomination regulars like Mad Men and Homefront are nowhere to be seen in the nominees lists, replaced instead by the new order of critically-acclaimed shows.
Master of Sex, along with House of Cards, is now the show to beat
Master of Sex and House of Cards now look like the shows to beat, with Breaking Bad making what will be its final appearance at the Golden Globes with the series ending this year. This comes just a year after Homeland achieved the impressive feat of winning Best Drama Series, Best Male Actor and Best Female Actor all in one night, although this does mark the second year in a row that the 2007-2009 winner Mad Men has not appeared in the Best Drama category.
Having served as part of a hosting team in 2009, NPH is back hosting the Emmy's all by himself this time
Neil Patrick Harris will look to further his claim as a natural awards show host when he takes to the stage at the 65th Annual Emmy Awards this Sunday, 22 September. Having built up an impressive resume already as co-host of the awards in 2009 and as a four-time host of the Tony Awards, the How I Met Your Mother star needed no incentive to take on the challenge of hosting the Emmy's this year.
Harris is relishing the chance to host the Emmy's again
"I love TV and the motley crew of people that are part of it," Harris told reporters on Wednesday as the red carpet was laid out in front of Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre ahead of Sunday's ceremony. As the host of the celebration of television, you can bet that NPH had praise for the current crop of shows looking to be honoured at the awards show. He continued, in reference to the wide-ranging scope of shows up for awards, "I think that makes for a better viewing experience of television than ever, and I'm happy to be the guy in charge of honoring that."(via USA Today)
The late actor has been remembered by fans, co-workers and family following his untimely death earlier this week
Gandolfini reactions flood the web. The death of James Gandolfini - the man who reinvented the gangster image on television with his portrayal as Tony Soprano in The Sopranos - cause shockwaves to ripple across the entertainment industry and even further afield, as social networking sites and blogs became over-run with tributes for the late actor.
Gandolfini will no doubt go down in history as one of television's finest actors, and will probably be remembered as one of the finest character actors to grace any screen, and the sheer rate of well-wishes sent on his behalf goes some way to cementing his legacy - which isn't bad for someone who only got into acting to keep a friend company and to pass the time.
The man who recognised Jim's talent and gave him his biggest break of all, Sopranos creator David Chase, left a particularly heartfelt message when the news of his passing broke, and he spoke lovingly of his "brother" in the moments after his passing.

Awards season kicked off on Monday night with the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York. Actor Beau Bridges and his wife Wendy are seen with their arms around each other on the red carpet. The hosts of the awards, Oliver Platt and Edie Falco, stood together for a brief moment and then parted ways as they appeared to be enjoying every minute of having their photos taken.
Also putting in an appearance was Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene). In this year's awards, two films were tied for Best Feature - the first time that has happened in the award show's 21 year history. Tree of Life and Beginners both won the prestigious award.
British actors Julie Christie and Daniel Day-Lewis have won the top acting prizes at the Screen Actors' Guild (SAG) awards.
While Christie took the best actress gong for her acclaimed portrayal of a woman facing dementia in Sarah Polley's Away From Her, Day-Lewis was rewarded for his stunning role as an amoral oil prospector in Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood.
Though the awards season has been jeopardised by the ongoing industrial action by the Writers' Guild of America (WGA), the SAG awards were held without a hitch after an interim agreement was signed between the two unions, allowing acting talent to attend the ceremony without having to cross picket lines.
Christie - who is nominated for the best actress Academy award for her part in Away From Her - paid tribute to the SAG, adding to The Associated Press: "It's lovely to receive an award from your own union, especially at a time when we're being so forcefully reminded how important unions are."
And Day-Lewis dedicated his award to the late Heath Ledger, who was tragically found dead in his New York apartment last week.
"In Brokeback Mountain he was unique, he was perfect," Day-Lewis said while accepting his trophy.
"That scene in the trailer at the end of the film is as moving as anything I think I've ever seen."
The 50-year-old added backstage that he had never met Ledger but had been profoundly affected by the actor's death.
"I thought he was beautiful. I just had a very strong feeling I would have liked him very much as a man," he said. "I admired him very much. I'm absolutely certain he would have done many wonderful things in his life."
Javier Bardem took the best supporting actor prize for his role as psychotic killer Anton Chigurh in the Coen Brothers' No Country For Old Men, which also won the award for outstanding cast in a motion picture.
With The Sopranos finally coming to an end, leads James Gandolfini and Edie Falco claimed the best actor and best actress prizes for TV dramas, while Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey, the stars of NBC's 30 Rock, took the comedy equivalents.
