Thai Island Made Famous In 'The Beach' To Shut Due To Over-Tourism

By Ed Biggs in Movies / TV / Theatre on 01 June 2018

The Leonardo DiCaprio film has caused over-tourism to the Thai national park on Phi Phi Leh Island, damaging the natural beauty and wildlife.

The secluded bay on Phi Phi Leh Island in Thailand, made famous in the Leonardo Dicaprio film The Beach, is to close due to over-tourism ruining the marine life in its waters.

Maya Bay has been a highly popular destination for tourists attracted to the pristine white beaches and crystal-clear waters, selected for the location of Danny Boyle’s 2000 movie The Beach, an adaptation of Alex Garland’s cult novel.

However, the island has paid a heavy price due to the sheer numbers of tourists, with the sea life and coral said to be close to dying off altogether, with the numerous boats transporting visitors churning up sand and killing coral at a rapid rate.

Leonardo DiCaprio To Reunite With Steven Spielberg On New Film?

By Ed Biggs in Movies / TV / Theatre on 18 May 2018

Leonardo Dicaprio Steven Spielberg

A kinda-sequel to 'Lincoln' is apparently being planned, with DiCaprio tipped for the lead role in a film about Ulysses S. Grant.

Filmmaker Steven Spielberg is reportedly considering a (sort of) sequel to his Oscar-winning historical drama Lincoln, this time about Civil War general Ulysses S. Grant, and is thinking about tapping up Leonardo Dicaprio for the lead role.

Spielberg is understood to be in talks with DiCaprio so that they can work together for the first time since 2002’s Catch Me If You Can, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The new project will concern the Civil War general who ascended to the presidency a few years after his ally Abraham Lincoln's assassination in 1865.

While it isn't being pitched as a direct sequel to Lincoln, as it will be based on Ron Chernow's biography ‘Grant’ rather than anything by Doris Kearns Goodwin, whose book ‘Team of Rivals’ was the basis for Lincoln, many will see it as a thematic follow-on from Spielberg’s much-praised film that starred Daniel Day Lewis.

Thai environmental authorities have forced the temporary closure of the beach to allow sealife and the coral reefs to recover.

Authorities in Thailand have ordered the closure of the beach at Maya Bay, made famous in Leonardo Dicaprio’s film The Beach, in order to counteract environmental damage caused by an excess of tourism.

In a decision made on Wednesday (March 28th) by Thailand’s national parks and wildlife department, the beach, located on the island Koh Phi Phi Leh in the Andaman Sea, is to be closed to all visitors for a period of four months starting in June, in order to allow the island’s coral reefs and sea life to recover.

Normally, most of Thailand’s marine national parks are shut to tourists for half the year from mid-May to mid-October to minimise the impact to wildlife.

'The Wolf Of Wall Street' Producers To Pay US Government $60 Million

The payment is part of a federal investigation into mis-spent monies allegedly taken from a Malaysian state investment fund.

The producers behind hit Hollywood movie The Wolf of Wall Street have agreed to recompense the United States government to the tune of $60 million, following allegations that the film was funded with money stolen from a Malaysian state investment fund.

In the summer of 2017, Red Granite Pictures was implicated in a scandal in which around $3.5 billion of money from the government-run 1MDB fund was said to have gone to bank accounts of associates of Malaysia’s prime minister, Najib Razak, and used for lavish expenses and investments over the world.

One of these vehicles is alleged to be Red Granite Pictures, which was co-founded by Riza Aziz, Najib’s step-son. It was said to have used misappropriated 1MDB money to fund not only 2013’s Martin Scorsese and Leonardo Dicaprio film The Wolf of Wall Street, but also blockbuster movies like Dumb and Dumber To and Daddy’s Home.

You can always trust Tom Hardy not to go back on an agreement. The 40-year-old actor has paid the price of making a bet with his 'The Revenant' co-star Leonardo DiCaprio by getting a tattoo on his right bicep reading 'Leo Knows All'. It seems it came after Leo bet that Tom would be nominated for an Oscar, and Tom bet that he wouldn't.

By Stephanie Chase in Movies / TV / Theatre on 27 November 2017

James Cameron Leonardo Dicaprio Kate Winslet

The infamous Titanic door looked big enough for Rose and Jack, so why did only one survive?

It’s been 20 years since Titanic hit theatres - which means fans have had two decades to be mad at James Cameron over Jack’s death.

And to celebrate the movie’s anniversary, the director sat down with Vanity Fair where he tried (and failed) to make us all get over Jack's death once and for all.

During the interview Cameron was straight-up asked: “why doesn’t Rose make room for Jack on the door?” But, warning, his answer is a little unsatisfying.

Is Leonardo DiCaprio Dating Teen Model Juliette Perkins?

By Holly Williams in Lifestyle / Showbiz on 26 October 2017

Leonardo Dicaprio

Maybe he's hanging out with all these girls to boost their publicity...

'Leonardo Dicaprio dating young blonde model' is not a headline we're unfamiliar with, but it seems the actor really does have a 'type'. He's recently been seen getting cosy with a New Zealand model named Juliette Perkins, and she's pretty much identical to most of his other exes.

Image caption Leonardo DiCaprio at the Oscars

The 42-year-old 'Revenant' star was reportedly seen getting into a car with the 19-year-old after leaving a nightclub together in Los Angeles over the weekend. Of course, that doesn't neccessarily mean that romance is on the cards, and given Leo's habit of keeping his personal life under wraps, we'll probably never know the true story.
