The High Court in Australia has turned down Rebel Wilson’s application for leave to continue to fight her defamation case against Bauer Media.
Her lawyers appeared before the high court in Canberra on Friday (November 16th) seeking special leave to appeal, after a lower court ruled earlier this year that she must repay $4.1 million of her record $4.7 million pay-out to the publishers of Woman’s Day, who were found to have defamed her.
Wilson sued magazine publisher Bauer Media over articles that she said had wrongly portrayed her as a serial liar in a number of articles published in 2015, regarding both her age and childhood. She won an award of $4.7 million over a year ago, but that was subsequently slashed to just $600,000 when Bauer appealed earlier in 2018.

Wilson won A$4.6 million in the original lawsuit last September, but an appeal judge recently slashed that award to just A$600k earlier this month.
Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids star Rebel Wilson has been ordered to pay back almost all of the multi-million dollar award to Bauer Media that she had won from them in a defamation lawsuit.
The 38 year old star saw her award of A$4.6m (£2.7m) – a then-record amount in Australian legal history for a defamation case - slashed to A$600,000 (£338,000) on appeal two weeks ago after a judge ruled that the sum was too punitive on Bauer Media.
The media conglomeration was found to have defamed Wilson in the case last September, after they printed a series of articles in publications they owned in 2015 claiming that the actress had lied about her age and childhood in order to further her career.

The record defamation award that Wilson won in September last year has been reduced significantly on appeal.
Rebel Wilson has seen her record Australian defamation award of $4.6 million reduced significantly to $600,000 on appeal, following arguments made by the defendants.
The Pitch Perfect star, 38, was awarded the original pay-out over a defamation lawsuit, after she sued Bauer Media for publishing articles claiming that she had lied about her background and age in order to further her career.
Wilson won the case back in September last year, but immediately the media group appealed, arguing that the sum awarded, the largest for such a case in Australian legal history, would set a “dangerous precedent” and that the original judgment was based on errors in law.

Wilson had applied for Bauer Media, who were found to have defamed her in a 2017 lawsuit, to pay all but $100k of her $1.4 million legal costs.
Rebel Wilson has failed in her attempt to have $1.3 million of her $1.4 million legal costs paid for by Bauer Media following her victory in a defamation lawsuit against the company.
Back in September 2017, the Pitch Perfect actress prevailed in a four-week trial in which her lawyers proved to a jury that Australian media group Bauer has defamed Wilson by branding her a “serial liar”, alleging that she fabricated her age, name and childhood in order to get ahead in Hollywood.
She was awarded the biggest defamation payout in Australian legal history, with an award of $4.5 million including $650k in general and aggravated damages, but the matter of costs in the matter remained a sticking point.

Six big Australian media groups had attempted to join Bauer Media's appeal against the A$4.5 million award to Rebel Wilson.
Rebel Wilson has accused Australian media firms of “colluding” with a magazine publisher in a collective bid to overturn the record payout for defamation that she recently won.
The 38 year old Pitch Perfect star was awarded a payout of $4.5 million Australian dollars back in September 2017, when she won a defamation lawsuit she had brought against Bauer Media, after articles they had published portraying Wilson as a habitual liar. Bauer Media has appealed against the fine, the biggest ever handed down in Australia.
However, a bid by six other Australian media groups to join Bauer’s appeal was rejected on Thursday (March 22nd) by the Supreme Court of Victoria.

It has been a few years since the Barden Bellas graduated from college, and while they have largely managed to stay in touch, they have not performed together at musical World Championships for a very long time. Needless to say, with their various career ventures not going as well as they had hoped and the media still keeping a close eye on them and willing them to fail, they are missing their beloved a cappella sing-a-longs a lot right now.
Beca Mitchell (Anna Kendrick) has quit her job out of boredom, Flo Fuentes (Chrissie Fit) is serving on a city juice stall, Chloe Beale (Brittany Snow) is struggling to get into vet school and Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) is now a not so popular impersonator called Fat Amy Winehouse. But maybe they can give their musical passions a boost with a new kind of show...
Aubrey Posen (Anna Camp) has an idea of trying to obtain an invite to perform at a competition show in Europe set up by the United Service Organizations (USO) in support of the US Army soldiers.
