In 1982, Earth created a time capsule of popular culture from the era, and sent it into space in order to establish contact with extra-terrestrial life. Somehow, an ancient race of alien lifeforms that have never had any other contact with mankind did not understand the meaning of the 'message'. They especially take offence to the inclusion of 'Pac Man' and 'Donkey Kong', and assemble an army of pixelated, murderous 1980s video game characters and send them back to Earth to destroy the humans. With the world on the brink of destruction by a giant 'Pac Man', mankind has just one hope: a hodgepodge collection of retro gamers, using their old techniques to defeat the greatest video game boss of all time.

Ashley Benson Admits People "Always Think That I'm A Bitch" When She First Meets Them

Ashley Benson

The 'Pretty Little Liars' star recently opened up about how her rather shy demeanour can often be mistaken for rudeness, especially from first impressions.

When They First Meet Although Ashley Benson is very convincing when she plays the outspoken and outgoing 'Pretty Little Liars' character Hanna Marin, in real life the 25-year-old actress can be rather shy and is a self-confessed introvert.

While speaking with Wonderland magazine, Benson revealed she often gives an awful first impression, but she isn't intentionally rude, the blonde beauty just takes longer than usual to open up to people.

Spring Breakers Review

By Rich Cline

Very Good

Arthouse filmmaker Harmony Korine (Mister Lonely) comes dangerously close to making a mainstream movie with this blackly comical thriller. While the film is often very funny, and constantly challenges our preconceptions by veering in directions we don't expect, it's also an intriguing exploration of America's hedonistic subculture.

Gomez and Hudgens also crush their Disney princess images as Faith and Candy, who decide they want to go to Florida for spring break with their pals Brit and Cotty (Benson and Korine). But they've spent all their cash on drugs, so they rob a restaurant and head to the beach. After indulging in a series of raucous parties, they end up in jail and are bailed out by a sleazy rapper-gangster who calls himself Alien (Franco). He takes them under his wing, getting them involved in his war with a dangerous cross-town rival (Mane).

The film is shot in lurid colours, with the girls wearing little more than fluorescent bikinis, sometimes accompanied with pink balaclavas. And the score by Skrillex and Cliff Martinez is visceral and hugely atmospheric, adding unexpected texture to the way Korine explores physicality, drugs and violence. It's also quite deliberate that, apart from the religiously minded Faith, these young women kind of blur together anonymously, like all the other bikini babes at the various beer-chugging, arms-in-the-air parties.

Spring Breakers Wide Release - Is This One Worth Seeing?

By Victoria Pavlova on 24 March 2013

Spring Breakers opens in theaters this weekend and there might be more to this teenage romp than we can see at first glance.

Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers is a big deal this… well, this spring break.

And ok, it may be mostly because of the semi-naked girls gracing the landscape throughout the whole flick, but still, Spring Breakers isn’t without its merits, if you take it for what it is. The popping color palette and at times seizure-inducing editing might put some more serious movie-goers of this, but it certainly does a lot to entice the target audience – which, for this visual romp would be bored teens and twenty-somethings. But don’t be fooled – beyond the bikinis and hot pink tones, Spring Breakers, which premiered last week at SXSW does have some substance as well. Ok, a little substance. But still.

Firstly, let’s talk about Disney actresses playing girls gone wild. Well, it’s fun and, let’s be honest – it’s a much healthier way for ladies like Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez to break out of the Disney mould than, say leaking nude pictures online. And, to be fair, Gomez does show remarkable depth of character – well, as much as the Spring Breakers script will allow anyway.

Selena Gomez Talks Spring Breakers And The Challenges Of Breaking Out Of The Disney Mould

By Victoria Pavlova on 16 March 2013

Selena Gomez talked about the challenges and the rewards of acting in Spring Breakers - a definite change of pace from her clean-cut Disney career.

The highly anticipated Harmony Korine flick, Spring Breakers has seen its premiere this week and one of its stars, Selena Gomez, has been making the rounds promoting it.

This has, of course, been a huge transition for the former Disney girl – from Disney channel to R-rated flicks is certainly a big jump to make. However, in an interview with MTV, Selena commented that she enjoyed the chance to break out of her mould and experiment as an actress: "It wasn't necessarily about the reaction as it was just for me wanting to do something that was creatively challenging for me, because acting is everything to me," she said. "And it's the reason why I'm here." Gomez also mentioned that she appreciated the chance to work with indie director Corine, as his style was exactly in the direction she was planning to take with her career. Interestingly enough though, it was apparently Selena’s mom, who gave her the final push to star in the R-rated flick: "Well, my mom is actually a big Harmony Korine fan, and we got the script through my agency," she told MTV News during a chat at South by Southwest. "I read it, I watched all of his movies with my mom and [watched] interviews, and I wanted to be a part of it."

Selena Gomez stars in Spring Breakers alongside Vaness Hudgens and Ashley Benson.

Selena Gomez Brings 'Spring Breakers' Premiere To SXSW

By Michael West in Movies / TV / Theatre on 12 March 2013

Selena Gomez Harmony Korine Ashley Benson James Franco South by Southwest

Spring Breakers premiered at the SXSW Festival on Sunday.

Harmony Korine's new movie 'Spring Breakers' premiered at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, on Sunday (March 10, 2013) with its stars Selena Gomez, James Franco and Ashley Benson turning out for the screening. The movie follows four friends, (Benson, Gomez, Rachel Korine and Vanessa Hudgens) as they rob a bank to pay for their spring break trip, though get thrown in jail before being bailed out by a drug dealer, played by Franco.

The movie premiered at the Austin Convention Center, with Gomez showing off an elegant looking Cushine et Ochs frock. The dress featured cut-out detailing at the shoulders and across the midriff - Gomez certainly showed her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber what he was missing. The sexual and violent themes in 'Spring Breakers' are certainly a departure from Gomez's usual Disney movies, though speaking to FlavorWire at SXSW, director Korine said he isn't too concerned with analysis of his films. "It's funny for me to listen to it," he said, adding, "But I don't really have that much to do with that part of things, I don't have a relationship with that type of analysis. I usually make the movies, and I put them together, and I put them out into the world and then I just go home and cut off as much as possible from all that."

Spring Breakers runs this week at SXSW and opens Friday (March 15, 2013) on limited release. The movie receives a nationwide opening on March 22. Watch the Spring Breakers below.

Ashley Benson Is Working Towards An Oscar But Already Criticised For Publicising Inappropriate Movie To Teens

By Lorna Greville in Lifestyle / Showbiz on 07 March 2013

Ashley Benson Selena Gomez James Franco Vanessa Hudgens

New R rated comedy-drama starring Ashley Benson has caused a stir due to the actress appearing on the cover of Seventeen magazine aimed at adolescent girls.

Ashley Benson is co-starring in a new movie alongside Selena Gomez and James Franco called Spring Breakers. It's a raunchy comedy-drama filled with sex and drugs, including a threesome scene between the characters played by Benson, Gomez and Franco. With such salacious material as the focus of the film why is she promoting it in teen magazine 'Seventeen' which is predominantly aimed at those aged 12 and upwards? That is the question being asked by some people.

Speaking to Fox411 body image expert Sarah Maria said: "It is not just inappropriate for Benson to be on the cover of Seventeen, it is ludicrous. The girls reading Seventeen are 13 and 14 years old, and they are learning about an actress whose most recent film includes a threesome sex scene? That is awful."

"We all came from a Disney background, and this was different from anything we've done. But we wanted to prove that we're not just girls who play happy parts," Benson explained in her interview with the magazine according to the Daily Mail. "It was such a crazy experience and it was character-building. I'm so proud of all of us. I'm really, really excited for everybody to see it."
