Kate Beckinsale Reveals Why She Turned Down The Chance To Play Wonder Woman

By Ed Biggs in Movies / TV / Theatre on 11 August 2017

Kate Beckinsale

The 44 year old 'Underworld' star was once in the running to play Wonder Woman, according to a new interview.

Gal Gadot’s star turn as Wonder Woman earlier this year was so definitive that it’s now hard to imagine anybody else doing it. However, Underworld star Kate Beckinsale has revealed that she was once in talks to play the famous DC character some years ago.

The 44 year old star told Yahoo in a new interview this week that back in the mid-noughties she was in the running to play Wonder Woman, but the pitiful state of female characters being written for superhero movies put her off.

“The incarnations that I was seeing were…, they weren’t this one [the 2017 film],” she told the interviewer, and her tone apparently suggested that she wasn’t too impressed with what they were offering.

The Only Living Boy In New York [2017] Trailer

Thomas is feeling disillusioned by the bright city lights of New York following his college graduation. He's looking for something special, and he hopes he can find it in his friend Mimi Pastori. The only problem is, she only loves him as a friend and he wants more than that. That becomes the least of his worries, however, when he sees his father kissing a mysterious woman who, needless to say, isn't his mother. He follows the woman, who is named Johanna, and finds himself embroiled in a strange love triangle. Johanna seduces him and he becomes enchanted by her, though his feelings for her are obviously tainted by her involvement with his father. To make matters more complicated, Mimi is now seemingly jealous of Thomas' new love interest, and she has her own reservations about it. Thankfully, Thomas does at least have someone to talk to about it, but is his new neighbour W.F. Gerald really the best person to give him advice?

Kate Beckinsale Enjoyed Slipping Back Into Selene's Trousers For Underworld: Blood Wars

By Rich Cline in Movies / TV / Theatre on 07 January 2017

Kate Beckinsale

The new fantasy action thriller Underworld: Blood Wars marks Kate Beckinsale's fifth appearance as tough-girl Selene

While she also returned to more highbrow roles last year with the Jane Austen adaptation Love & Friendship, Kate Beckinsale says she loved revisiting Selene. "There's a lot that goes on for the character in this movie," Beckinsale says. "She has stuff happen to her that hasn't happened before, and we also have a lot of new cast. It feels like a very different universe and world this time."

'Underworld: Blood Wars' carries on from 2012's 'Underworld: Awakening', which saw Selene escape her cryonic prison only to discover that she has a hybrid daughter named Eve (India Eisley) and the latter's Lycan father Michael is missing. She discovered a world overrun by Lycans posing as genocidal humans and Eve's life is under threat because her DNA is coveted by the Lycans who want to perfect their bloodlines and those who want to cure both the vampires and the Lycans and end the eternal war for good.

Beckinsale and Sheen had a daughter, Lily Mo, in 1999 - and she sometimes sends her amusing pictures of her father to cheer her up.

Kate Beckinsale has a really strange way of cheering up her daughter – she sends her a naked photo of her ex-boyfriend (and her daughter’s father) Michael Sheen. Okay then (!)

Beckinsale and Sheen dated for eight years between 1995 and 2003, during which time they welcomed their daughter Lily Mo, now 17 years old, in 1999. Although they split, they have remained friends since.

The 42 year old actress made the startling revelation during an appearance earlier this week on Conan O’Brien’s chat show.

If James Bond Were A Woman She'd Be Any Of These Ladies

By Holly Williams in Movies / TV / Theatre on 29 October 2015

James Bond Emily Blunt Gemma Arterton Kate Beckinsale Rosamund Pike Emilia Clarke Imogen Poots

In an alternative universe maybe...

Since Daniel Craig firmly stated that he didn't want to do another James Bond film after 'Spectre', suggestions have been flying all over the place about who it could be next. Will Idris Elba become the first black 007? Or will it embrace the talents of Tom Hardy or Tom Hiddleston? But what if was a woman?

Ok, so feminism aside, it's a firmly held idea that Bond should continue to be a male. For a start, you'd have to change the name - how many ladies do you know called James? (Apart from Blake Lively's daughter, of course). But if you erase the tradition of him being a man, you might as well erase all the other Bond conventions; the gadgets, the fast cars, the womanising etc. But, turning pop culture upside for a moment, if James Bond WERE a woman - who would she be?

Emily Blunt displayed some I-work-for-the-government skills in 'Sicario'

Absolutely Anything Review

Terrible

Simon Pegg continues his rollercoaster career, alternating between superior blockbuster franchises (Mission: Impossible and Star Trek) and awkward British romantic-comedies (Hector and the Search for Happiness). And this might just be his most disastrous move yet. Despite a promising cast, which includes a reunion of the surviving Monty Python members, this madcap sci-fi comedy never finds its tone, veering wildly from nutty slapstick to sentimental silliness. It's hard to remember laughing even once while watching it.

The story kicks off when an American space probe launched in 1972 is intercepted by the Intergalactic Council (voiced by the Pythons). Their investigation into Earth consists of watching YouTube videos, so of course they decide to destroy the planet. But first, they'll give one earthling a chance to save the world: they randomly choose North London schoolteacher Neil (Simon Pegg) and give him superpowers that allow him to do absolutely anything. After a few mishaps, he tries to use his abilities to improve his life, making his his dog Dennis speak (in the voice of Robin Williams) and appearing irresistible to his neighbour Catherine (Kate Beckinsale). Even though she already likes him. But Neil only has 10 days to do the right thing with his powers, or Earth is doomed.

Yes, this is essentially the same plot as Bruce Almighty, but the film never quite settles on an approach. It's produced in the style of an over-wacky child's movie, but the humour is eerily adult-oriented, so it's difficult to see who would enjoy it. The main plot is never remotely coherent, meandering through the story without any sense of direction. There are also a few corny sideroads to pad out the slim running time, including Neil's work colleague (Sanjeev Baskar) becoming an object of religious devotion, while Catherine's American military one-night-stand (Rob Riggle) becomes an obsessive stalker. Neither of these strands goes anywhere funny. Nor do extended cameos by Eddie Izzard (as a gruff headmaster) or Joanna Lumley (as a snooty TV presenter).
