The eighth and final season of 'Game of Thrones' is set to premiere at some point in 2019.

Although the eighth and final season of ‘Game of Thrones’ is still the best part of year away, the fantasy drama’s long-term fans are still gradually preparing to say goodbye.

That sense won’t have been improved by Emilia Clarke, one of the show’s popular stars as Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen, who has revealed that she’s already finished shooting her scenes for good. She spoke to Vanity Fair this week about what it felt like to put her iconic character, whom she’s portrayed for most of a decade, to rest.

“It f***ed me up,” the English star teased about Daenerys’ end. “Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavour in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is… I’m doing all this weird shit. You’ll know what I mean when you see it.”

The actress will bring Daenerys Targaryen's story to a close in 'Game of Thrones' season 8.

As one of the biggest breakout stars from 'Game of Thrones', Emilia Clarke is a woman who has helped pave the way for feminism and equality for women through her role in the HBO series as Daenerys Targaryen. Though we wouldn't say all of her actions have been the best examples of how women can make a name for themselves, she has provided excellent lessons on being a leader in a world that's dominated by men.

Whilst the scene of their first sexual encounter was one many had looked forward to for some time, seeing the pair make love whilst narration proved they were actually related was one of the strangest moments 'Game of Thrones' has ever had. Still, that's not the problem a vocal minority have with the series.

The characters could be locking lips before we know it...

It looks like the sexual tension we all felt between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen in the most recent episode of 'Game of Thrones' wasn't something we were willing to happen rather than it actually being there, as one of the show's directors has spoken out about the romance that could blossom between the two.

Image caption We've not yet seen Jon bend the knee to Daenerys

Whilst everybody at home knows the pair are related by blood, after it was revealed in season 6 that Jon Snow is actually from a Targaryen AND Stark background, the fact Daenerys is Jon's aunt doesn't seem to be slowing down the brewing relationship. In fact, this is a world where incest is frowned upon, but still seems to boil under the surface for many involved.

The stars found it strange finally being on set with one another.

HBO may be going through quite the disastrous week, with leaks on a variety of different shows including hit fantasy series 'Game Of Thrones', but that hasn't stopped fans from getting super excited about the amazing meeting that took place in last week's episode between Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). Whilst the relationship between the pair didn't get off to the best start, the cold freeze between them soon began to thaw, as Daenerys agreed to let Jon and his men mine the dragonglass that lay in the stocks at Dragonstone.

The meeting between the two was something that fans have been waiting for for quite some time now, especially so after last year's revelation that Jon does indeed have Targaryen blood. As the nephew to Daenerys, but with neither aware of their family connection, there's now rumours that romance could blossom between the two.

The 30 year old British star, who has played Daenerys Targaryen since the HBO series began in 2011, has been working hard promoting the seventh series ahead of its return this weekend. In a new interview for the US August edition of Elle magazine, she opened up about what it is like to bare all on screen, and reveals that she gets a lot of unfair criticism for it.

Specifically referring to her up-close-and-personal encounter with Daario Naharis (played by Michael Huisman) in season four, she said: “It’s brilliant. I actually went up to [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] and thanked them. I was like, ‘That’s a scene I’ve been waiting for!’ Because I get a lot of c**p for having done nude scenes and sex scenes.”
