LAUREN ALAINA, the 16-year-old singer regarded as one of the favourites to win this year's American Idol, was visibly shocked after finding herself in the bottom two during yesterday's results show. LAUREN ALAINA had wowed the judges with her rendition of 'Unchained Melody' on Wednesday (4th April 2011).
Host Ryan Seacrest had warned audiences at the top of the show that they "might be surprised" by the evening's result. The five remaining contestants waited anxiously to hear their fate, and JACOB LUSK was the first to find himself in the bottom two. The surprise came when LAUREN ALAINA was told she may have received the lowest amount of viewer votes. The singer "looked distraught" and burst into tears as she sat on the couch and waited for the live performance from judge Jennifer Lopez. The 16-year-old then began "crying harder" after being told she would sing again next week, at the expense of soul singer Lusk. The four remaining contestants on the show include Haley Reinhart, who impressed on Wednesday with a rendition of 'House of the Rising Sun', JAMES DURBIN, SCOTT MCCREERY and Alaina.
Next week's show will feature live performances from American Idol judge Steven Tyler, as well Jordin Sparks' music video premiere. This season's finale will include a performance by LADY GAGA.
