American Idol hopefuls have been warned not to be too relaxed that SIMON COWELL will be back in London during opening auditions - because he'll be casting his harsh judgement via satellite.

Cowell is currently in his native Britain for the second series of POP IDOL, which slightly conflicts with the hit TV contest's American cousin, whose auditions begin on Sunday (03AUG03) at the ROSE BOWL in Pasadena, California.

But rather than leave judging duties to his less caustic colleagues PAULA ABDUL and Randy Jackson, Cowell will appear on Idol's spin-off American Juniors on Tuesday (05AUG03) to give his take on the videotaped auditions.

The British music mogul recently raked in a reported $45 million (GBP28 million) for his decision to do another three seasons of the American show, which will now embark on its third season.
