American Idol judges eliminated 50 hopefuls on last night's show.
AMERICAN IDOL judges Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson eliminated 50 contestants on last night's Hollywood show (17th February 2011), leaving just 50 more remaining in the competition. All 100 singers gave a solo performance in an attempt to win over the superstar panel, but half of the field had their dreams cut short and were eliminated. Among those given the chop was 16-year-old Brielle Von Hugel, who was heavily tipped to make if through to the latter stages of the competition after a strong audition in Jersey City. Chelsee Oaks, a talented singer who performed a duet with her ex-boyfriend at the auditions, was also eliminated. However, it was good news for the likes of Alex Ryan, the high school student from Glen Rock who made it safely through to the next round, as did 26-year-old retail worker Ashley Sullivan.
Next week, the successful contestants head to Las Vegas where they'll be asked to perform Beatles songs. After each hopeful has performed, the field will be whittled down once more, this time to a final 24.
