American Idol contestants Scotty Mccreery and Lauren Alaina will battle it out for this year's title after making it through to the season ten finale. American Idol received almost 95 million viewer votes after Wednesday's performances (18th May 2011), and it was 20-year-old Haley Reinhart who was the last contestant to be eliminated from this year's show.
Reinhart was expected to join the big favourite Scott Mccreery in next week's final, but a mishap on Wednesday's show appears to have cost her a place in the last two. While tackling Led Zeppelin's hit 'What Is & What Should Never Be', she tripped and fell on the 'Idol' stairs. After stumbling on the song's lyrics, Reinhart eventually managed to regain her composure and finish the track. The young singer from Chicago looked stunned when Ryan Seacrest delivered the results of the viewer vote but she performed a rousing rendition of Elton John's 'Bennie and the Jets' to the delight of the American Idol crowd. Reinhart's elimination means next week's final will feature two country artists, both of whom have received universal praise from day one of the competition. Speaking after exiting the show, Haley said, "This is the biggest platform anybody can ask for, and I rocked it out. And I had a blast. And this is only the beginning".
American Idol will return for the season ten finale on Wednesday (25th May 2011), with this year's winner announced on Thursday.
