Defiant red carpet prankster Vitalii Sediuk is thankful he mistook America Ferrera for Cate Blanchett at the Cannes Film Festival in France last month (May14) - because he's convinced he would be facing a sexual harassment charge if he'd have ambushed the Australian actress.
The former Ukrainian journalist was arrested after trying to clamber under a stunned Ferrera's gown at Cannes.
The prank cost him his job at Ukraine's 1+1 Tv, but he insists it could have been much worse had he not confused the Ugly Betty star with the Oscar winner from behind.
Sediuk, who is currently serving community service in Los Angeles after attacking Brad Pitt on the red carpet at the Hollywood Maleficent premiere in May (14), tells The Hollywood Reporter, "Actually, I was going for Cate Blanchett. I thought, 'Ok, Cate Blanchett is a major star; she'll have the bigger dress'.
"The police asked me, 'Did you see anything?' And I said, 'No, because the dress was many layers'."
Blanchett, by contrast, was wearing a sheer Givenchy skirt.
Sediuk adds, "It would have been a sexual harassment."
And, asked about his red carpet attack on Pitt, Sediuk is refusing to feel bad about his actions, adding, "He has everything you can imagine. And I'm cleaning toilets? Sorry, but excuse me."
