Amanda Bynes returned to Los Angeles because she couldn't find a place to live in New York.

The 'Easy A' star, who is being held under an involuntary psychiatric hold in hospital for a mental evaluation after being arrested for setting a small fire in a stranger's driveway in Thousand Oaks, California, on Monday (22.07.13), allegedly flew back to the west coast because she couldn't access any of her money.

A source told gossip website RadarOnline.com that the 27-year-old actress, who has repeatedly sparked concern for her welfare in recent months after displaying erratic behaviour, decided to return to L.A. ''because she had run out of money she had access to. Amanda was unable to find any place to live in New York City because of her bizarre behaviour.''

The insider added: ''No one would rent an apartment to her. She does own a house in Calabasas (California). It's unclear how she got to California from New York.''

Amanda's estranged parents, Rick and Lynn, are allegedly eager to secure a conservatorship to give them legal control of their daughter, who recently underwent a number of cosmetic surgeries and was evicted from her apartment, until she gets her life back on track.

The 'Hairspray' star, who was charged with attempted evidence tampering, reckless endangerment and marijuana possession after being arrested at her apartment in New York City on May 23, is due to appear in court again on September 26 in connection with the incident.

It is not yet known if she will be charged for lighting the fire or trespassing.
