Amanda Bynes is an American actress most famous for her Nickelodeon show 'The Amanda Show'.
Childhood: Amanda Bynes was born in Thousand Oaks, California. Her parents are Lynn, a dental assistant, and Rick Bynes, a dentist. Her father is Catholic but her mother is Jewish; she doesn't identify herself with a particular religion herself. She attended private Catholic school La Reina High School for a while, but started at University Elementary before graduating from Thousand Oaks High School.
Acting career: Amanda Bynes started acting as a child, appearing in a commercial for Buncha Crunch candies. She has also appeared on stage in 'Annie', 'The Secret Garden', 'The Music Man' and 'The Sound of Music'. She started her Nickelodeon career on 'Figure It Out' and 'All That' before landing her own sketch comedy show, 'The Amanda Show' in 1999. Her first film role was in 2002's 'Big Fat Liar' with Frankie Muniz. The following year, she landed the leading role in 'What a Girl Wants' opposite Colin Firth and Kelly Preston. In 2002, she began starring with Jennie Garth in the sitcom 'What I Like About You'. In 2006, she appeared in the comedy 'She's the Man' alongside Channing Tatum and 'Love Wrecked'. 2007 saw her appear alongside Nikki Blonsky and John Travolta in 'Hairspray'. In 2010, she was in the well-received teen comedy 'Easy A', opposite Emma Stone and Lisa Kudrow. She has twice announced her retirement from acting, the most recent time in 2012 when she said she wanted to focus on a fashion career.
Other career ventures: Amanda Bynes launched her own fashion line, Dear, in 2007 with Steve & Barry's though it went out of business in 2009.
Personal life: Amanda Bynes currently lives in New York working on her fashion career. In 2013, she announced that she has an eating disorder. She has been targeted by the media for some time due several instances of bizarre and irrational behaviour. In 2012, she was stopped by police for using her cell phone while driving. In the same year, she was arrested and charged for driving under the influence. Later that year she was charged with hit-and-run and her driver's license was suspended. The hit-and-run charges were later dropped.
The troubled actress has been the subject of a lot of media speculation and controversy since September - let's hope this is a new start for her.
After a 26 day silence, Amanda Bynes made a reappearance on Twitter, posting a picture of herself trying on new dresses, reports E! Online. For a change, she seemed in good shape, so we can hope that she can get her personal life back on track.
Following a series of bizarre incidents throughout the autumn, Bynes started a Twitter silence on November 10th. She then posted a picture of herself in the fitting room of a Valley Village, California boutique, looking in good health and having undergone another image change. Lavender hair out, blonde hair in.

On the 28 year old's official Twitter account, a tweet posted in the early hours of Tuesday morning read, “I was diagnosed bi - polar and manic depressive so I'm on medication and I'm seeing my psychologist and pyshchiatrist weekly so I'm fine.”
The popular noughties actress was released from 'involuntary psychiatric hold', and is now bidding to overturn the conservatorship held over her by her parents.
Friday saw yet more developments in the ongoing saga of Amanda Bynes, the actress and former child star.

TMZ reports that Bynes was released on Thursday from the psychiatric facility in Pasadena, California where she had been receiving treatment, following the legal conservatorship granted to her parents last week (October 22). Bynes attended a mandatory hearing and requested her release, which was granted despite doctors’ assessments, on the basis that she was stable enough to not be held involuntarily.

Following her latest stint in a psychiatric facility, Amanda Bynes was released yesterday, October 30th. Bynes spent just two days at the clinic, despite a judge’s ruling that she was to spend a month in treatment. According to TMZ, the troubled actress asked to be released on Thursday, to the dismay of friends and family. She walked out just three days after the judge’s ruling. The whole thing was a bit more formal than it sounds, however. After the ruling, Amanda contested her involuntary psychiatric hold at a hearing at the facility. Such hearing must be held within four days after a judge decides on a mandatory psychiatric hold.
Bynes is on her meds, but she is still considered unstable.
Despite getting a temporary conservatorship, Amanda’s mother Lynn Bynes cannot make decisions about her psychiatric treatment.
The 28 year-old actress' medical team reportedly informed the judge attached to her case that she is "very ill," and unable to look after herself.
For the foreseeable future, troubled actress Amanda Bynes' involuntary stay at a psychiatric hospital in Los Angeles, which was already extended from 72 hours to two weeks earlier this month, is going to continue for at least another month.

The New York store's security team apprehended Bynes and questioned her for wearing a hat she hadn't paid for, but no arrests or charges were made.
Another day, another Amanda Bynes story. This time, the former child star was questioned by security at the clothes store Barneys for allegedly walking out without paying for a hat.

In “where are they now” news this week, Amanda Bynes has found herself on the receiving end of a DUI. But wait – Amanda Bynes has been in treatment, working on her mental health, and DUIs are a fairly common thing anyway, so what’s all the fuss about?
This is Bynes' first run-in with the law, since she settled her DUI in January.
Well, the now retired actress is suspected of driving under the influence of illegal substances, aka drugs, when she was pulled over on Sunday morning by a California Highway Patrol officer. According to the New York Daily News, Bynes had been driving alone in a 2013 white Mercedes ML350 about 3:30 a.m. After being pulled over, she was asked to take a drug test and she couldn’t complete a series of hand-eye coordination tasks.
